I am directed by Mr, Secretary Amery to
acknowledge the receipt of your letter No.P.87 of the
8th of January, and to transmit to you, to be laid
before the Earl of Birkenhead, the enclosed copy of
a letter which has been received from Sir Gilbert
Clayton in regard to his recent negotiations with Ibn
Saud, the Sultan of Nejd.
2. I am to explain that Sir Gilbert Clayton’s
full report together with the various annexures is
at present being printed, and that copies of the print
will be forwarded to you as soon as possible. Mr.Amery
would then propose that, provided His Lordship concurs
a conference should be held at the Colonial Office to
discuss the questions raised by Sir Giloert Clayton
in his present letter and certain other points which
arise out of his main report.
