Faisal al Saud f Mecca, to the Acting British Agent and
Consul, Jeddah, Ro.Eb dated B7th Haiaadan,lid44 (10-4.19B6).
After respects.
X hare received your letter !fo#2i$js (£0/14) of B.4.19L6
regarding the readiness of His Britannic Majesty's GoTernaent
to alter the treaty of 1916, and that the present circurastances
necessitate considering it. This has given me great pleasure
and it will undoubtedly raake the friendly relations in future
acre firm and stronger.
In this oonnection I have to thanA General Sir Gilbert
Clayton for his Aind efforts and for the attention given by
His Britannic Majesty's Government to bis opinions which are
based on experience and foresight. I do not doubt th&t such
person is the capable one who can m&Ae the Arab and the Britibh
interests common and closely join the two nations.
The request I previously made for a special representative
having no oonnection with the Xersian Gulf to be sent in older
that I may discuss with him all matters that concern the
interests of the .,rab and the British nations was for suoh
/ purpose.
My Government is ready at any tine to enter into friendly
negotiations with whoever the British Government may depute
for discussing an agreement to strengthen the relations
between ray nation and the British nation.
