supply of su,munition and if necessary in an emergency stop it
altogether. It was agreed that the Colonial Office should
tako the question up in a letter to interested DepartBients
in connection with Ibn Baud's recent request to be allowed to
purchase aeroplane material in this country.
5. The question of whether it would be politic in
t e first instance to endeavour to obtain Ibn Baud's own
views as to what should be contained in the new treaty, or
alternatively whether Ibn Baud should first be furnished
with a rou^tit draft of the treaty in the fora which we should
like it to take was then discussed. It was felt that, as in
Ibn Baud's opinion His Majesty's Government had already
been responsible for delaying the opening of the negotiations
for several months, our position would be extremely weak if
we were now merely to invite him to furnish us with his views
without giving him any indication of what were the views of
His Majesty's Government. It was, therefore, agreed that
it would be desirable to open the negotiations by submitting
to him a preliminary draft of the Treaty,.and to leave him to
make his criticisms thereon.
6. The Conference then considered point (2) on the
Agenda. The view taken was that it would be inappropriate
to introduce provisions for the fixati . of the ir c-ru
Hejaz frontier into a general treaty of amity with Ibn Baud
such as that conterrplated, and that the settlement of this
frontier should fora the subject of a separate protocol.
It was, accordingly, d*eided to recownend that the
opportunity afforded by the negotiation of the principal
treaty should be taken to negotiate a separate protocol
to the Hadda Agreement defining the frontier between the
Hejaz and Trans-Jordan, and that this frontier should
start from the intersection of meridian 38° and parallel
29°35', should cross the Hejaz Railway two miles south^
