in the preamble for the words “the High British
government on its own part" and that *H.B« l»“ should be
used throughout the remainder of the draft, for "tue
High British Government" *• It was also agreed that
Ibn Baud should not be referred to by name and that
the words "on behalf of the Government of Nejd on his
part" in the preamble should be omitted.
The Foreign Office representatives suggested that
the description of Mr .Jordan should be modified and it
was agreed that this should be done.
Article 1. It was agreed to omit the word
"perpetual" before "peace" and, in deference to the
views of the Government of India, to omit the woras
"their heirs and successors''.
Article 0 . The Government of India wished to
amplify this Article so as to provide for freedom of
religious observance and rites for ; oslems of British
nationality. The general sense of the Conference was
that it was doubtful whether a provision of this kind
would in fact secure for British Modems any greater
freedom and that, as it might involve the ;Titian
Government in interference in matters or religion, the
proposal of the Government of India should not be
adopted.
Article 4. The Government of India had expressed
the opinion that this Article was unnecessary but ad
given no reasons to support this opinion. a* r ^Cl^ytgfl
expressed the view that Ibn Baud would probably attach
considerable importance to a provision of this Kind
