If, however, Lord Plumer considers that it is
imoortant that delimitation should be undertaken
without loss of time, hr. Amery sees no real
objection, except in the save of expense, to
demarcating such portions of the frontier as
run through populated areas, the long stretches
of desert frontier remaining, at any rate for the
present undelimited. Mr. Amery would propose
to suggest this solution to Lord Plumer at the
samfe time explaining the objections to a complete
delimitation, and to request him to state the
sections of the frontier which it is most imnortant
to delimit.
5. As resards the ooints raised in Sir H.Dobbs’
telegram, Mr. Amery considers that the expression
"Territories under a British Mandate" in Article IY
should be held to include Iraq, and that, if the
national status of Iraqis is to be recognised in
Nejd and the Hedjaz and they are to receive British
protection there, then similarly the Nejdi and
Hedjazi status of Ibn Baud's subjects should be
recognised in Iraq. The use of the words "British
status" in the second paragraph of Article 4 might
