His Uajosty the King of the United Kingdom
of Great Britain and Ireland and of the British Dominions
beyond the Seas, Jumper or of India, and Uis Majesty the
King of the Hejas and Sultan of Hejd and its Dependencies
in view of the friendly relatione which exist between tnem
and with a view to consolidating their respective interests
being desirous of concluding a treaty of friendship and
amity His Britannic Majesty has named and appointed His
Trusty and Well»beloved Stanley Rupert Jordan, £sq«.
Acting British Agent and Consul at Jeddah as His
Plenipotentiary to conclude a treaty for this purpose with
His Majesty the King of the Hejas and Sultan of Kejd,
and its Dependencies,
In virtue of which His Majesty the King of
the Hejaz and Sultan of Hejd and its Dependencies and the
said Mr, Jordan have agreed upon and concluded the
following Articles:

There shall be peace and friendship betweflnHis
Britannic Majesty and His Majesty the <ing of the ^ejaa
and Sultan of Hejd and its Dependencies, -iach of the hig-
contracting parties agrees and promises to use all
possible means to prevent his territory being used as a
base for activities directed against the present or futu 2 «
interests of the other.
Article 2,
His Majesty the King of the Heja* and Sultan
of Nejd and its Dependencies herety recognises the
special position of His Britanni^ Majesty in Iraq, Trans*
Jordan and Palestine,
