of the 15th January No. E.245/7/91
I am directed by tne Secretary of
State for India to forward for the
information of the Secretary of
State for Foreign Affairs a copy of
a telegram from the G-overnment of
No. 166 S. dated 27th India deprecating the early
January 192$k *
recognition of the Sultan of Nejd
as de jur e King of tne Hejaz.
Though definitely to
refuse recognition migirTTbe regarded
as a form of tnat interference in
the affairs of the Hejaz which it
has been the policy of H.M. Grovernmeni
to avoid, it would seem to be in
consonance with that policy to
defer recognition so lorg as may be
possible without causing offence,
preferably until Ibn Saud's position

title "King of the Hejaz”, though
selected by the Allied Governments in
1916 as the one of all the many
suggested wnich appeared to carry
the least implications^ v/hether of a

| hardly be entirely dissociated in the
