of the 27th February last, relative to the Heja* national
flag, I hare the honour to state that no distinctive
flag has as yet been adopted for use In the Hejaz, but
that at present the Bejd flag is flown on ell public
buildings and Is serving te^, ororily for th&t purpose.
2. I understand that the Kejas Asee&bly has
discussed the future design of a flag but opinion is very
divided and to date no d< elslon h*s been taken. One party
favours the Sejd flag with the addition of two large
stars representing the holy cities, Medina and ecce,
while the more modern party favour a distinctive design,
claiming th* t the rsbio writing on the dejd flag conveys
nothing whatever to a foreigner.

4. The local authorities are very punctilious in
displaying the Union T aoJc when returning the salute of
His Majesty's ships, but jwing to the guna being placed
outside the wells of the town th« flag is not displayed
from there but over the rinoipal gateway of the town.
