to aoitnovidedge the receipt of your despatch Ho.327 M (30/2)
of the 16th ultimo, transmitting translation of a letter
addressed to you by Ibn Sa'ud and complaining that no reply
had been received to his three letters notifying the
Egyptian Consul at Jeddah of Ibn Sa^'s accession to the
throne ) 0 f the Hejaz.
2, His Excellency is info used by the Egyptian Ministry
for foreign Affairs that the last two of Ibn Sa'uft's
communications in question have been duly received by the
Egyptian Government, but considers that for the moment, you

cannot, in your reply to Ibn Sa'ud, do more than mention this
fact.
*$• Gunfidential . King Fuad, for reasons connected with his
Caliphate ambitions, appears to be trying to delay as long as
possible the recongition of Ibn Sa’ud. His Majesty now wishes
to postpone a decision until it is seen how the Mahmal and the
Egyptian pilgrims are treated on this year's pilgrimage. His
Excellency, therefore prefers to wait until after the
pilgrimage before deciding whether any hint should be given to
King Fuad or not with a view to hastening the recognition of
Ibn Sa'ud by the Egyptian Government.
4. a copy of this despatch has been forwarded to His
Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for foreign Affairs.
