Translation of letter from Abdul Asiz ibn Abdul itohaan
al Faisal al Saud, Mecca, to the Acting British Agent
and Consul Jeddah, No«b4, dated ^rd Ail Qedah, 1^44,
(May 15th, 1926).
After respects*
In continuation of the conversation that took place between
us when I was with you during ty last visit about the matter of
the non arrival of the ooujui unication which has been sent on 26th J
(Jamad) lo44 by the Mini stry of Foreign Affairs to the Egyptian
Consulate at Jeddah regarding the agreement of the people of the
Hejaa in declaring us as T, i:ing of the Hejaz", the Ministry of
Foreign affairs sent another one on 18th Shawal, 1444, under
No. 190 and sent to the said Consulate a copy of the proclamation
issued in this respect and asAed the said Consulate to oommunioate
same to its Government in &gypt.
As we did not receive any reply the same thing has been
assured by a letter dated 25th 3 haw a i, 1444, under No .204 agd 1
inquired from that Consulate as to the action taken in this
respect, whether its Government has bean infbiaed or not* Ur to
date no reply has been received by the Foreign Office*
As Your Excellency was the mediator in settling this
matter, I wish that you would bear witness about wkt has been
done in the matter up till now.
If it is not out of place I beg you to ascertain from
the said Consulate as to whether the first and the second
letters were received.
I never believed that an official Consulate dealt in such
manner.
I mean by this to infoim you of what is going on lest

The papers cover the election of Ibn Saud [‘Abd al-‘Azīz bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd] as king in 1926, his assumption of the title of King of the Hedjaz and Sultan of Nejd and its dependencies, his de jure recognition by HM Government and others, the delay on the part of the Egyptian Government in recognising Ibn Saud's position as king, the British attitude towards the Nejd-Hedjaz conflict, salutes to the Hedjaz flag, and the breakdown of negotiations for the recognition of Ibn Saud by the Italian Government. The papers also cover Ibn Saud's proposal to send a delegate to the International Sanitary Conference in 1926, and to become signatory of the International Sanitary Convention.

The principal correspondents are the Colonial Office, the Foreign Office, HM Consul at Jeddah, and the Viceroy.
