Sir,
I am directed by mr.Secretary Ameiy to refer
to the letter from this Department of the 18th of March
numbered as abore enclosing & copy of a telegram from
the Resident at Bushire in regard to the title of Ibn
Sand,
2. It will be recalled that in the course of tho
negotiations for a revision of the Treaty between His
Majesty* s Government and Ibn Saud, towards the end of
last year, Ibn Saud proposed that he should be styled
•King of the Hedjaz and Hejd and their Dependencies".
At the Inter-departmental Conference held on the 4th
of February, 1927, copies of the minutes of which were
enclosed with Colonial Office letter Mo.49008/27 of the
17th of February, it was recommended t at, unless and
until Ibn Saud had declared himself to be Kiig of *sj<3

The papers cover the election of Ibn Saud [‘Abd al-‘Azīz bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd] as king in 1926, his assumption of the title of King of the Hedjaz and Sultan of Nejd and its dependencies, his de jure recognition by HM Government and others, the delay on the part of the Egyptian Government in recognising Ibn Saud's position as king, the British attitude towards the Nejd-Hedjaz conflict, salutes to the Hedjaz flag, and the breakdown of negotiations for the recognition of Ibn Saud by the Italian Government. The papers also cover Ibn Saud's proposal to send a delegate to the International Sanitary Conference in 1926, and to become signatory of the International Sanitary Convention.
