We understand that the pictorial Turkish stamps which were
printed m London have been overprinted with the words "Iraq in
British Occupation" and the values in annas and rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. for use in
Mesopotamia. On enquiring of the Crown Agents for the Colonies
they inform us that the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. has been dealing with the matter
and that the stamps have already been sent out to Baghdad. We
wish to buy about 15000 rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. (£1000) of these stamps and would
be glad to know if you could arrange for them to be sent to your
office and delivered to us on payment of the face value at the
rate of 1/4 per rupee. We may say that this system has for some
years been in operation with most of the British Colonies, who
receive orders when exceeding a certain amount and send the stamps
through the Crown Agents, who deliver them to the dealers on payment
of the face value plus a small charge of 4$ which the Crown Agents
make for their services. If you will kindly consent to receive
the stamps on the above conditions we will send you a list of the
stamps required and will also send the order out to the Civil
