Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt
Z^'t*** your telegram No. 3 of the 2nd of January on the
_ Ptf subject of the exclusion from the Trans-Jordan area of
the
Wadi
A seasonal or intermittent watercourse, or the valley in which it flows.
Sirhan, and to point out that the letter from
the Resident, Bushire, to the Sultan of Nejd, to which
you refer, was based upon my predecessor’s telegram
of the 15th of October, which was repeated to
Jerusalem in his telegram No. 297 of the same date,
and specifically referred to in his telegram No. 298
of the same date addressed to yourself. (The
original telegram to Colonel Knox, in which the
provisional boundary was defined, was also repeated to
Jerusalem as telegram No. 329 of the 8th November
1923).
2. At the time that theb.instruct ions to the
Resident, Bushire, were sent it was regarded as a
matter of urgency to communicate to Ibn Baud the
limits within which any aggression by Wahabi forces
would be regarded as an attack upon territory for
which His Majesty’s Government is responsible, and it
was impracticable to take any further steps to
ascertain your views. You will observe, however,
telegram No. 55 of the 25th
November that actual details of the frontier were not
sent to Ibn Baud until the 21st October, so that
there would have been time to consider any
