was requested on Pevruary 4th to in
form his Government that the ac:ep-
tance of the whole project would en

British interests, but provided that
the co-operation of the Arabs is secu
red and that the Arabs fulfil the con
ditions and obtain the towns of Homs,
Hama, Damascus and Aleppo, the British
Government would not object to the ar
rangement. He was also informed that
he should acquaint his Government that
as the Blue Area on the Map extends so
far eastwards and affects Russian in
terests it would be absolutely essen
tial that, before anything was cen-
cluded, the consent of Russia should
be obtained. I trust, therefore, that
Monsieur Sazonoff will clearly compre
hend that the proposals to which the
French Government have agreed in prin

of the Russian Government, and also
upon the co-operation of the Arabs be
ing secured. Moreover, it need hard

in regard to the Ottoman Empire in
Asia at the conclusion of peace.
