No. 5 Mizzil.
(a) Actual position. —On low black hill south of and overlooking
the camp. The site is marked by a large cairn, which can be seen by
climbing up the small mound of rock immediately north of the thana.
(b) Compass bearings .—
(f) To Dahana station, 105°.
(2) To Washab station, 256° (Sketch No. 3).
(r) Crowfly distances —
(1) To Dahana station, 2o| miles.
(2) To Washab station, 20 miles.
{d) Signallers encamp near thana f whence it is 15 minutes easy climb
to station.
(e) Water-supply .—Fairly plentiful, but very bad. Water is found
in the nawor just to north of the thana, where it runs over the surface of
the ground for 800 yards and finally collects in a pool about 20 yards
across. This water is quite unfit to drink. The best water is to be
obtained by digging pits near the south-east corner of the nawar,
about 3 feet deep. They should be dug fresh every three days, and
should be protected by sangars or tagaz hurdles to prevent their getting
filled up with sand. Water at this place should be distilled for drinking
purposes^ otherwise, after drinking, a scum is left on the lips, and the
men complained that it did not quench thirst and caused pain in the
chest.
(/*) Fuel. —Plentiful all round the thana.
(g) Grazing.—Very plentiful ; tagaz and gaz for camels ; but no
grazing for horses.
(/z) Rations. —As for Merui station.
(/') Strength. —Six signallers, 37th Dogras.
No. 6 Washab.
(a) Actual posit'on. —On the eastern rim of the nawar, or crater, of
Koh-i-Sultan, just at the foot of a black precipitous hill, whence the bear
ing of the station is 36°.
The track from the camp to the station leads over a Icotal into the hed
of a large nala flowing west and along this nala to the watershed. Then
it takes a turn south-east and leads out into the nawar } across the eastern
rim, across a spur of this rim and along the crest line to the foot of the
precipice. (Sketch No. 5.)

(2) To Mushki Chah station, 264° (Sketch No. 4).

(1) To Mizzil station, 20 miles.
(2) To Mushki Chah station, 26 miles.
(</) Signallers encamp near Washab spring, where water is not plenti
ful and is a strong aperient. The water here should be distilled and
owing to the large quantity of ochre deposited, the distillers mustbs cleaned
out constantly.

A report, marked as secret, on the area of Nushki, Chagai, and Western Sinjarani. The report was compiled in the Intelligence Branch, Quarter Master General's Department. The report was commenced in 1897 by Captain R E Roome, 6th Bombay Cavalry (Jacob's Horse), and revised and completed by Major W C Walton, 104th Wellesley's Rifles, Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General in 1903. It was printed at the Government Central Printing Office, Simla, in 1904.
The report includes a preface by Colonel John E Nixon, Assistant Quarter Master General, Intelligence Branch (folio 5) and a glossary of vernacular terms used (folio 6). The main body of the report contains chapters on geography, communications, fortified posts and forts, climate, sanitation, resources, ethnography, history, administration, and military strength.
The second part of the report includes a gazetteer of topographical and ethnographic information (folios 36-127) and appendices covering wells, canals, and meteorology, and including a report on the signalling stations of the Dalbandin-Robat line, with sketches (folios 131-147).
