Three wells fit for camels only, in small palm grove, about £ mile south
east of thana.
Four wells in shallow nala in small palm grove, about i mile north
east of thana. Water is close to surface, but is aperient.
One well, 15 feet deep, between thana and bungalow. Water good, but
the supply at present is very small.
Four wells in shallow nala, about f mile east-north-east of thana.
Water here about 5 feet from surface, very good and plentiful. More wells
are being sunk at this spot.
A small amount of coarse grass is to be found between the groves of
palm trees and to the north of them. Camel-grazing and fuel are plenti
ful, about 5 or 6 miles north-north-east of the thana towards Damodim.
At Mushki Chah a levy post building has been erected, a rectangular
enclosure, with mud walls, about 12 feet high, flanked by four towers.
The post is planned to contain quarters for the levies which man it, a
small traveller's serai and accommodation for a shop. There is also a
Chappar-khana here. A signalling station was established in 1903 on
the hill bearing 320° from the bungalow. {See Appendix V.) [Roome—

place. There are 1 six to ten water-holes with about 18 inches of water in
each, where one or two hundred camels can water. There is no grass
here, and very little firewood or camel-grazing in the immediate neigh
bourhood. {Maitland)
N ALAF—
A halting-place on the Mashkel river, the sixth stage from Dashtak
(Panjgur). It is 14^ miles from Mianrud to the south and 17 miles from
Rek-i-Farang to the north. This place is also passed on the road from
Washuk to the Mashkel river, and is four stages (84^ miles) from the
former place and 13 miles to the nearest point on the Mashkel. There is
here a pool of water, but this is uncertain, but wells would produce any
amount. Fuel, camel forage, and grass are abundant. {MacGregor—^
Bell.)
1 Arrangements were made by the Afghan Boundary Commiss.on to increase he number
of wells to twenty, and their total contents amounted to 7,800 g 3 . 1 ' 003 * T he ra . t , e of . g U P
the wells was not ascertained, but it was said to be tolerably rapid, and since the water lies not
far from the surface, this is probably the case. The water is brack.sh but quite drinkable, and
if necessary, no doubt the supply might be largely increased.
