No.28 dated 11th July, 1938.

51. The daily "Partap" of Lahore, dated 30th
June 1938, publishes the following:-
,f The question of the re-establishment of the
Caliphate has again arisen in Egypt. It is known
that the Sheikh-ul-Azhar has for a long time been
in correspondence with Islamic countries over this ques
tion. Taufiq Rashdi, the Turkish Poreign Minister,
has announced that his Government has no objection
to the appointment of King Paruq as Caliph. The
Prime Minister of Iran, who recently arrived in
Egypt, has also made a similar declaration. It
appears that Iraq, the Yemen and other Arab States
are prepared to accept this proposal. The Kings
of Afghanistan and the Hedjaz have also been consulted
in the matter. Turkish Foreign Minister has, on
behalf of Mustapha Kemal
Pasha

, invited King Paruq
to Turkey. The invitation has been accepted and
the King is about to leave for Turkey.”

There is a personal memorandum in French, from the former Turkish minister General Chérif Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. to the British Government in 1930, advocating a Caliphate in Muslim India under the rule of the exiled, former Ottoman Caliph Abdul Medjid II. There are news articles published in the Pratap , Lahore, The Egyptian Gazette , Cairo and the journal Great Britain and the East , London.
