Dear Mr. Jamali,
You will remember that when we met the other day
I mentioned to ycu that a Doctor Bertram had been engaged by
Ms highness to advise on the fisheries off ^iscat. I said
that the Sultan had agreed tr<&t he should be provided with
such motor transport and sea going transport as he required
to perform his duties, and would be supplied with a personal
servant, cook and interpreter during the period of his stay.
I said that I would be very glad to kr put up Doctor Bertram
at the Consulate during the periods of his actual stay at
headquarters in wuscat, and provided he thought it necessary
and satisfactory to his requirements, to place the

launch at your disposal for Doctor Fortram’s use,
2, As regards a cook and servant, I said I was afraid
I could not help, but that X use telegraphing to the Sultan
suggesting that I should refer to you to take over general
charge of these matters, and also suggesting that in place of
an interpreter, it might provide pleasant companionship for
Doctor Bertram and valuable experience tx if His Highness were
to attach Saiyid Thur®ini bin Shahab to Doctor Bertram to
accompany him during his work, Hia Highness has now telegraphed
to me asking me to inform you of his agreement to these suggestions
and saying that Saiyid Thuwaini my be attached to Doctor Bertram
during Ms visit,
3, So far as X know Doctor Bertram is likely to arrive
in Maoat by the first mail steamer from Bahrain after the 15th
January 1948.
Yours sincerely,
A.C. Stewart.
