I discussed the question of poj
traffic via the Batinah with the Sultan on the 6th
July. He said that before the war when there were a
lot of Persian refugees on the Batinah coast, there
was a certain amount of trafficking in slaves from
that coast to Saudi Arabia; so far as he knew there
were none now. He promised, however, to look into
the matter.
I happened to mention that the Al Bu Shamis

that were being sold in the Buraimi market c.f. S 124
and he told me that he too had been informed that Shaikh
Rashid bin Ahmed (?) had been specifically authorised
by Ibn Saud to grant such certificates. The Sultan
promised to send for Shaikh Rashid and to warn him
against igiving false certificates.
