Article i! 2 .
Free passage will be granted by the Governments of Nejd and
Frans-Jordan to travellers and pilgrims, provided they conform to
those regulations affecting travel and pilgrimage which may be in
force in either country. Each Government will inform the other of
any regulation issued by it in this matter.
ANNEXURE 6 .
1. Memorandum No. 5 concerning Trans-Jordan Frontier presented
by the Sultan of Nejd on the 26th October, 1925.

twelfth meeting.
Summarized Translation.
In reply to the draft Agreement which you presented for the
settlement of the Trans-Jordan frontier, I wish to thank you for this
great step forward which you have undertaken, and to say that I am
prepared to accept your proposals subject to three reservations, as
follows :—
( a ) tl,at the frontier to the north (of

pushed back a distance of five hours’ journey northwards;
(b) that the line put forward by you as marking the northern
limit of Nejd territory should be amended in such a way as to
create a neutral area whose limits should be defined bv the
following triangle :—
apex at the starting point, namely, the intersection of
meridian 39°E and parallel 32°N, with sides radiating from that
apex along straight lines running, roughly, north-west and
south-west, and meeting meridian 37°E at" two points to .be
agreed upon later; and further that this triangular area should
be absolutely free from any restrictions or Customs impositions
on traders and grazing tribes ;

Related matters of discussion include the following: Gilbert Clayton’s mission; a conference agreement with tribunal representation; relations between Iran and Nejd relating to refugee issues; the British mandate; the railway in the southern part of Nejd; Mullah Hafiz; the Bahra agreement; the Hada Agreement; the Jeddah Agreement; and conflicts and riots between Iraq and Nejd around the frontier. The correspondence in the volume is mainly internal correspondence between British officials, although the Sultan of Nejd and officials from the Iraqi Government also feature.
The principal correspondents are: the High Commissioner for Iraq; Under Secretary of States; Sir Gilbert Falkingham Clayton, British Agent and Consul General in Jeddah; and the Government of Iraq.
