The letter is an acknowledgement of orders dated 29 October 1808 respecting the Deria Dowlat . It notes that William Bruce is proceeding on board the Sapphire in order to pass information on to Captain Davis.

The letter contains two enclosures:

1. Letter from Sir Harford Jones [Brydges] to William Bruce, dated 29 October 1808. The letter concerns one of the East India Company's cruizers, the Sylph , which is missing. It includes instructions that William Bruce is to accompany the Sapphire to assist with the search. It notes that in the process it he can also acquire the Deria Dowlut as previously instructed.

2. Letter from J Steward, assistant to Captain Charles Pasley to William Bruce, dated 26 October 1808. The letter concerns the measures the Acting Resident has taken to protect company property in the event of aggression by the Persian Government and the provision of cruizers to be stationed at Bushire.
