About this record
- Content
The letter notes that the Resident has established a correspondent at Tehran via an Armenian, Owaness Paitkhem and encloses an extract of a letter from him dated 7 September 1807. One enclosure:
1. A translation containing an extract of the above mentioned letter. The author describes Russian and French diplomatic activity with the Persian Court, but does not provide any details concerning the outcome of these discussions. The author also describes an application to travel to Russia via Tehran from three Englishmen from Bombay and their subsequent journey through the region. The arrival of news concerning English persons having been put to death in Turkey is mentioned, as is speculation that those in Bagdad [Baghdad] and Bussora [Basra] will suffer the same fate. Intelligence is also conveyed of a major Russian victory against the Turks near Gurz and of a Persian army under Hossain Khan that has been routed.
