The letter encloses two communications (not present) from Jaffer Ali Khan [Ja‘afar ‘Alī Khān]. It contains an update on the packet that Jaffer Ali Khan has been tasked to intercept and provides an explanation for a trip the Resident has made to Cangoon via the HCC Nautilus . It includes one enclosure:
1. An extract from a letter from Nicholas Hankey Smith to Jaffer Ali Khan, dated 18 September 1807. The resident is sending money as requested to further the cause of intercepting a packet. Jaffer Ali Khan is further instructed to obtain, if possible, a copy of the treaty signed between Persia and the Afghans.

Condition: The item has suffered from pest damage and some of the text in f. 42 and f. 42v is slightly difficult to read as a result of two holes that are present in each folio, that have obscured some of the body of the letter.
