The letter is an acknowledgement of instructions dated 21 May 1807. It briefly discusses Persia and France, who the Resident believes are working closely together. It also notes an issue he has with cruisers no longer being regularly deployed in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , as was the case prior to the Turkish war, which he claims could delay communication with India.
