oi quarter, who joined first crowd new in Mohaomed
All Square and at further icoting of a few
shops and cafes occurred. At 3.30.pcm, police had
situation in hand*
Several natives are reported killed or wounded
hy bullets fired it is alleged by British officers
and men. Enquiries to date show that there is no
foundation for these reports* The injuries were
probably caused by men in frontiers car*
Belay in forwarding above information has been
due to necessity of controlling exaggerated rumours
and comparing military and civilian reports. All these
agree mat unfortunate motor incidents were chief
cause of disorder and persons concerned are under
arrest.
On night of November 3rd some British soldiers
were attacked in Alexandria near Hadx-a hospital and
a sentry fired on their aggressors causing some
casualties.
In order to prevent repetition of disorder on
Friday November 7th Prime Minister agreed to issue a
declaration forbidding demonstvatj.ons of any kind
and I arranged for Egyptian troops to be sent to Ale-

precautions to be taken Those measures were apparent!:-
