of the reasons which have influenced His Majesty’s
Government in differing with the carefully considered
expert advice tendered'them hy myself, as their fully
accredited Representative, together with the names of
those persons by v/hom such information was imparted.
I consider it my bounden duty to intimate to
‘Your Lordship that, should any reflection be cast on my
personal character or official reputation, I shall have
the right to demand a full and complete judicial
enquiry into the whole conduct of my administration.
I resigned, with some reluctance, my appointment
in the Sudan, at the special request of His Majesty’s
Government at a critical period during the War and
accepted the position of High Commissioner for Egypt,
as it was represented to me, in the telegram offering
the appointment, that such a course v/ould be in the
interests of His Majesty’s Government. In the circum
stances which have now arisen, I have no intention
whatever of resigning from this position without such
judicial enquiry.
I should be glad to be informed if a Blue Book
is in course of preparation. In this eventuality I
wish to record my desire to examine and criticize this
document
