Awidarra Khel Maliks, though well disposed
towards Government, were unable to come to
a settlement owing to internal feuds. They
were told that those Maliks desirous of a
settlement should combine to bring the recal
citrant members of the tribe to their senses,
and this they promised to endeavour to effect.
A daring theft of Government rifles was
committed on the 16th April from the hamlet
of Ibrahimzai in Lower Kurram by Mirza
Khan and Malik Bhangi Khan, Samil Masso-
zais, who took advantage of the male in
habitants of the village being at a feast to
seize all the rifles in the village, and kidnap
the son and nephew of two Ibrahimzai Maliks
and the wife of a Saiyid. The tribe has been
called upon to give up the offenders, the
stolen rifles, and the kidnapped persons. The
Mastu Khel and Dilmarzai jirgas are taking
steps in the matter.
On the 4 th April, two Turis journeying
from Lower to Upper Kurram with twenty

Afghan territory, the Turis have been in
formed that they must make their own
arrangements for the recovery of the cattle.
Kohat—On the night of the 12th April,
shots were fired at the station cells guard at
Kohat, and two men of the guard, which was
furnished by the 52nd Sikhs, were wounded.
The object of the attack was to gain possession
of rifles, but was frustrated by the alertness of
the guard. The assailants, who are believed
to have been six in number and are strongly
suspected to be Kohat Pass Afridis, escaped.
A Mulla from Swat is said to have passed
through Zaimusht and Alisherzai country early
in April, preaching jihad. Vague reports have
also been current to the effect that emissaries
from Kabul have been wandering through the
districts adjoining Kurram, preaching jihad,
and stating that Afghanistan must soon tollow
the example set by Japan, who has overcome
the powerful armies of Russia.
On the 4th April, a gang of Jajis from
Jaii Maidan murdered Ghulam Asghar of
Balyamin. The leaders of the gang of raiders
were recognised, and the Governor of Khost
has been informed of the occurrence..
On the 8 th April, the Jajis of Jaji Maidan
raided the village of Maru Khel m Upper
Kurram, and shot AH Mardan, Kurramwal.
Waziristan.—WM Mulla Powindah busied
himself during a recent visit to Mamirogha in
writing to the various Maliks with the object,
apparently, of establishing his position as the
Xious head of the Wazirs He pronounced
