One of the four criminals who hnd
murdered and robbed a nakhoda near
Sohar a year ago, was executed on 31st
March.
There has been an affray at Sur between
the Mukhannas and Aramas, in which
one boy was killed and another wounded.
A slave girl of the Fawaris has been
killed in a dispute about drinking water
between that tribe and the Arama.
Coal Depot.- collier “ Turkistan”
left for Henjam on 21st March, after
discharging 1,005 tons of coal.
Bahrain.
Epidemics. —Plague is much reduced
in Manamah but >is very severe in
Muharraq where the daily death roll is
estimated to be from 30 to 40. The
highly insanitary state of the town lends
itself to the spreading of the disease, and
the leading people, realizing this, are now
anxious for a municipality on the lines of
the Manamah Municipality.
Kuwait.
Water Plant. —Mr. A. Can^bell of Messrs.
George Scott & Son (London), having
Bushire ;
10 th May 1924 ,
completed the dismantling and removal of
the Water plant, left for the United
Kingdom on the 24th March.
Oil Interests .—Major F. Holmes of the
Eastern and General Syndicate, Ltd.
arrived from Bahrain on 24th March to
negotiate with the Shaikh of Kuwait for a
joint oil concession from him and the
Sultan of Nejd, in the Neutral Zoue
common to Kuwait, and Nejd.
Mr. J. L. Popham, geologist of the
Eastern and General Syndicate, arrived
from the United Kingdom via Baghdad,
on 1st April.
Kuwait Conference .—The Conference
terminated on 12th April.
Lieutenant-Colonel S. G. Knox, C.S.I.,
C.I.E., President of the Conference, left
the same day for France.
Ibrahim Hashim Bey and Colonel Ali
Khulqi Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. , the Trans-Jordanian dele
gates, left Kuwait on 9th April.
Dr. Abdulla Effendi Damluji, the Presi
dent of the Nejd Delegation, left for
Hasa via Bahrain on the 12th April;
and Mulla Hafiz Wahabah, for Qasim
(where the Sultan of Nejd then was) on
the 16th.
