H. M. S. “ Cairo ” had visited Mus
cat from the 9th to the l*2th, on her way
up the Gulf.
MUSCAT.
Sur.
The Shaikhs of Jalaan have imposed a
tax of a dollar per camel on caravans
carrying merchandise between Sur and
the Interior. The Government of Mus
cat has protested against the imposition
of the tax as being contrary to the
Agreement between the Omanis and that
Government.
NEJD.
The Sultan.
Ibn Saud left Riyadh for Mecca
about the 3rd.
Wahhabis.
In reply to his invitation to attend
the Islamic Conference, Subhi Barakat,
President of the Syrian Union, tele
graphed from Beyrout on November 7th
his willingness to participate, adding:
“ In view of the international aspect
peculiar to Haj organization we deem a

reference necessary to the mandated
Governments.”
On the 10th, Mr. H. St. J. Philby
telegraphed from Jeddah to A1 Qusaibi
in Bahrain, requesting to be informed at
once whether Ibn Saud intended t 0
come to Jeddah, adding that he (Mr.
Philby) was awaiting the Sultan’s
arrival.
On the 16th, Ibn Saud telegraphed
through Bahrain to King Ali, ordering
him to leave Hejaz and await the
decision of the Islamic World if he
desired peace and the prevention of
bloodshed.
On the 17th, a Nejd “ communique",
in support of Wahhabi action, was
despatched from Bahrain to the ad
dresses of nine vernacular newspapers
in Cairo, and three each in Damascus,
Beyrout and Jerusalem.
A message from H. M. Government to
the Sultan of Nejd was despatched via
Bahrain on the 26th.
It was to the effect that Delegates
from the Central Khilafat Committee
in India w T ere being given passports to
visit Hejaz and Nejd. They should not
be considered as representatives of the
whole Indian Moslem Community and
particularly they held no credentials
from H. M. Government or the Govern
ment of India.
