253. Good rams have fallen at Shushter and the Kanin, and, though late, Condition of
it is hoped that a great part of the crop may be saved so that the coming year, if Country.
not a record one and better than last year, as was hoped, should at any rate be
still a very good one for export for grain.
254. Anglo-Persian Oil Company. —Sadiq-es-Sultaneh, Imperial Commissioner
for the Anglo-Persian Oil Company, and Mustaufi-ul-Mulk, Kais-i-Maliyeh for intere8ts ’
Arabistan, visited the Company’s works at Abadan on the 29th February. Sadiq-
es-Sultaneh left for Ahwaz on the 13th March.

255. The Resident, Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Percy Cox, arrived on the 27th
February in R. I. M. S. “ Lawrence ” accompanied by Lieutenant A. T. Wilson.
He visited Shaikh Sir Khazal Khan on the same day. His Excellency the Shaik
and Nizam-es-Sultaneh with Haji Rais returned the visit at the Consulate the
next day. The Resident and party returned to Bushire on the 28th February.
256. Major L, Haworth returned from India by the mail on the 29th February
from privilege leave, and took over charge from Captain A. Grey.
257. Mr. J. B. Wood, C.I.E., with Captian L. Birdwood and Lieutenant
Townshend, R.E., arrived in R. I. M. S. “ Lawrence ” on the 11th March. They
left for Ahwaz on the 13th, and returned on the 17th, leaving for Bushire the
next day.
258. On the 21st, being “ Nauroz ” day, His Majesty’s Consul and the British
representatives of the local firms visited His Excellency the Shaikh.

260. Khuda Karam Khan of Qala-i-Tul, arrived in Ahwaz on the 3rd instant
en route to Kerbela.
261. Qaid Hayat of Deh Luran (Pusht-i-Kuh) arrived from Mohammerah on
the 1st instant en route to Pusht-i-Kuh.
262. Yusuf Khan, Amir Mujahid, arrived at Malamir on the 25th en route
to Behbahan.
263 North Arabistan. —Dizful is distu rbed owing to a quarrel between the Condition of
Amad-ed-Daftar and his followers and the Karnasiyan Mohalla. Firing takes Country,
place daily.
264. Amir Kuli Khan, Behdarwand, has been placed in charge of the Shuster-
Dizful road-guards by the Bakhtiari Khans. Formerly Reza Khan, son of Yawar
Khan, a nominee of the Sheikh’s, was in charge.
265. Luristan. —There is a famine in Burujird and the surrounding country
due to the successive plundering of the villagers by the Salar-ed-Dowleh and
Bakhtiari Constitutional forces.
266. Caravans, under Lur escort, have again begun to use the Burujird-Dizful
road. The post is also again coming by this route.
267. Kuhgilu. —Fighting has again broken out between the Behbahan and
Kanawati Mohallas of Behbahan. The Kanawafc are supporters of the Bakhtiari
Ilkha.ni family, of which Amir Mujahid is a menr er, and his appointment to the
Governorship has encouraged them to rise against their old enemies of the Behbahan
Mohalla.

268. Reports from Godar state that small bands of Tebi robbers have again ap- Condition of
peared upon the Lynch Road. Large raids are improbable while the Khans and Roads, Telegraph
II are in the low country.
269. The telegraph lines in Arabistan have been interrupted about seven
