617. North Arabistan.—Th.Q Shaikh of Mohammerah, Shaikh Chasib Khan
and Haji Rais left for Bend-i-Qir on the 3rd April to meet Sirdar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. -i-Jang and Mur-
teza Kuli Khan and returned to N^siri on the 8 th idem. Ijlal-us-Sultaneh was
present at the meeting and came on to Nasiri with the Shaikh.
618. Monsieur F. Fourman arrived in Nasiri on the 14th April. His visit
is in connection with the Ijlal-us-Sultaneh’s claims on account of pay and upkeep
of sowars at Shuster and Dizful. Hitherto Monsieur Fourman has refused to
meet these claims on the plea that the Governor-General has collected certain
revenues which he has failed to account for. The Governor-General is receiving
the support of the Shaikh.
619. Shaikh Khaz’al and Haji Rais were still at Nasiri at the end of April.
The Shaikh proposed to remain there until the Khans left for the high country!
Haji Rais has been invited by the Khans to meet them at Ramuz but he proposed
to avoid going there if he could do so without giving the Khans offence.
620. Kuhgilu. —-The punitive measures against the Kuhgilu having completely
failed, Sirdar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. -i-Jang is now endeavouring to obtain hostage from the tribes by
peaceful methods. He has induced Ali Murad Khan Tebi to send his son, who he
will probably bring with him to the Ilaq as a hostage. The Bakhtiari 11 have
