1498. Monsieur Minorsky, Chief Russian Commissioner with the Turco-Per-
sian Commission, with Madame Minorsky and Dr. Volansky, formerly of Kerman-
shah and now of the Mission, arrived in the “ Queen Olga ” on the 13th.
1499. Itela-ul-Mulk, Chief Commissioner of the Persian Commission, also ar
rived in the “ Queen Olga ”,
1500. On the 19th December, being the Czar’s name day, His Britannic Ma
jesty’s Consul accompanied by Captains Kenney and Dyer attended the recep
tion held by the Russian Commissioners.
1501. Captain Brooke with an escort of the 18th Lancers for the Turco-Per-
sian Boundary Commission arrived on the 26th.

1502. {Bakhtiari) . The executive Khans had not reached the Kishlaq up
to the end of the month. Towards the end of the month news was received that
the departure of Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. -i-Jang had been delayed owing to the death of his fa
vourite wife. ;
1503. {Kuhqilu).—From reports received from Ram Hormuz it appears that
the position at Behbehan is unchanged. Bahadur-us-Sultaneh has not succeeded
in collecting revenue from any of the Kuhgilu Chiefs, and none of the latter, with
the exception of Shukrullah Khan Buwair Ahmedi, have made their submission.
1504. [North Arabistan)—A party of Dizfulis, who were ploughing to the west
of the town, were attacked by Sagwands on the 23rd instant, and robbed of thirty
mules and other property. Sadiq Khan, Chief of Sowars, gave chase and reco
vered all the looted property, except the mules. Later, some Baharwand
Chiefs, who were coming into Dizful with their hostages for the Survey party, ac
cidentally encountered the Sagwand robbers and recovered six of the stolen mules.
Sadiq Khan and Khalaf now propose to lead a big force against Fazal Khan and
Sartip Khan, who are responsible for the Sagwand robberies.
roads 1505. The Bakhtiari road is now closed to camels and donkeys, but mules
tele - can still go through. There is much snow on the road, especially on the Burreh
Murdeh pass, and traffic has, in consequence, been slack throughout the month
under report.
1506. The telegraph line has been working intermittently during the month,
communication being interrupted for several days by each fall of rain.
