1467. 200 sowars of the Shaikh of Mohammerah, together with sowars of Ali Mardan
Khan and Sadiq Khan, attacked Fazil Khan and Sartip Khan and looted their
property. They also arrested Sartip Khan, killing one of his brothers and wound

1468. News has been received from Dizful to the effect that after the Saga
wands were defeated by the Shaikh's sowars Fazil Khan and his “ II " passed
to the other side of the Karkah river. No robbery has since been committed.
1469. From the 10th to 17th November the Governor of Shustar distributed
517 “ Tarifeh ” or election papers to the people for the election of a Deputy.
Since the Khawanin of Shustar believe that the Shaikh of Mohammerah is not in
favour of this election, as only one Wakil Elected representative or attorney, acting in legal matters such as contracting marriage, inheritance, or business; a high-ranking legal official; could also refer to a custodian or administrator. was intended to be elected for both
Shustar and Nasiri they asked the Governor to stop the elections for the present;
the Governor, however, did not agree. The people having found that the Gov
ernor had made all the Tarifeh in the name of his brother Kawam-ud-DowIah,
complained to Tehran and also to the Shaikh of Mohammerah to the effect that
they would not accept the election.
1470. Shustar is quiet, but there is firing at night.
1471. Captain J. S. Crosthwaite, Political Oflicer, Dizful, arrived at Shustar
on 24th October, at Mohammerah on 21st November, and returned to Ahwaz on
24th November. Admiral Sir Edmund Slade arrived from Bushire in H. M. S.
Sphinx '' on the 26th October, left for Ahwaz on 28th October accompanied by
Professor Cadman and Mr. Blundstone, returned from Ahwaz on 6th November
and left for Kuwait in H. M. S. “ Sphinx " on the 10th November, returning on
17th and leaving for Bahrain on 20th. g
. 1472. Mr. Hedges, Assistant Officer in charge, Arabistan Telegraph Line,
arrived from Ahwaz on 27th October and left for Bushire on 18th November.
1473. Mr. Apted, of the Railway Syndicate, and Monsieur de Brucq, left for
Ahwaz by caravan on the 25th October.
1474. Mr. J. M. MacGregor arrived from Kermanshah on the 20th October to
relieve Mr. Butters, of the Imperial Bank of Persia, Mohammerah, who is proceed
ing to Shiraz.
1475. Mr. Pascoe arrived on 30th and left for Ahwaz on 31st November to
join Admiral Slade.
1476. Sergeant Gypson, of the Ordnance Department, arrived on the 13th
to pitch the Camp for the British Frontier Commission.
1477. Shahzadeh Muhammad Ali Mirza, Asad-us-Sultan, Inspector for the
Customs, arrived from Kermanshah on the 11th.
1478 Monsieur Belayew from Bushire, Captain Zkhai? and Alieff, Surveyors
and ten Cossacks, arrived in the “ Tigre” on the 8th for the Turco-Persian Brontier
Commission.
1479. Dr. Young arrived on the 27th for the Railway Survey party.
1480. Mr. Randall, Agent to the Roberts Wonckhaus and Company, left
