Three of the Bakhtiaris deputed to assist the Nazmieh went to see the Rauza
Khawani of the Germans. On entering the Nazmieh were disarmed and their
rifles are reported to be still in the possession of the Germans.
The German secret agents tried to send Baud Ali Khan secretly to Bam.
On getting information the authorities tried to persuade the German secret agents
to recall Baud Ali Khan and despatched some Bakhtiaris to bring him back but
the German secret agents despatched six sowars to escort Baud Ah to Bam.
The Governor then sent out Bakhtiaris and a scuffle occurred near Kanaka in
which Baud Khan was wounded in both thigbyand is now lying in Mahun. The
six sowars were seized by the orders of the Governor-General and have been
well bastinadoed.
7. Bahram Khan according to reports from Barnan is collecting his men to
invade British Baluchistan to avenge the blood of his brother Ah Muhammad
Khan who was killed in the attempt to raid British Baluchistan.

8. The clergy continue their meetings and intrigues.
On 10th Augusymeeting was held at Haji Agha Nourullah’s where the principal
clergy were present Telegrams Were drafted for Tehran to be discussed at che
meeting of the Ittihadieh-i-Ulama the next day.
On 12th August Haji Agha Nourullah from the mimber of Masjid-i-Nou used
most violent language against the Chief of Police, the Persian Government, the
Ministries and to a certain extent against the Majlis, the members of which he
qualified as incapable. Then, weeping, he informed his audience that after
Ramazan he was going to Meshed. This provoked a chorus of protests.
16th August. —The monster meeting at Masjid-i-Nou, for the success of which
the clergy and their adherents had exerted themselves so strenuously, numbered
some 5—600 persons. (Bazaar reports represent 3,000.)
These, chiefly merchants and shop-keepers, began to assemble shortly before
noon at the Masjid-i-Nou where two hours later they were joined by the ulama
and the whole body proceeded from the mosque to Haji Agha Nourullah’s house.
There Zenjani and other ulama made violent attacks on the Finance Bepart-
ment, more particularly in regard to the levy of taxes in kind on districts where
crops have failed and regarding opium dues. (Opium dealers and dallals had
mustered in force.) Ha,ji Agha Nourullah confined himself to confirming the
statements of others and in summing up their grievances in a few words demand’ng
to know whether Persia had a government or not.
