of forty trucks by the Gendarmerie at the request of the
local representative of the Persian Road f ran sport Board*
^ae trucks were seized in order to force the owners to accept
tyrea frau the Board and work at oovernment rates. The
owners have, however, bought tyres - probably stolen ones -
at high prices and want to be able to recover their outlay
by charging higher freight rates. The Rinanoe Director is
trying to settle the natter.

matters in Tehran, where he ruis gone on leave* Chief
among tnem is the question of further disarmament of the

Consular diaries detailing affairs in Ahwaz [Ahvāz], Persia [Iran]. The diaries were submitted on a fortnightly basis by the British Consul at Ahwaz, although for some periods they were submitted monthly. The diaries cover the period of the Second World War and the Anglo-Soviet occupation of Iran, beginning in August 1941. Subjects covered in the diaries include: the actions of the local Persian administration, including the movements of local Persian officials; the economic situation, including agricultural production, harvests, irrigation, food supply and prices; tribal affairs in the surrounding region, with frequent reference to the Bakhtiari, Kughilu (also spelt Kuh Galu) and Arab tribes, tribes in Luristan [Lorestān], and their relations with the Persian authorities; the movements of foreigners; internal security; public health; local politics and elections; communications, including roads and railways; meteorological observations; British interests, including the movements of British officials and British subjects; Soviet interests; propaganda and public opinion.
The file includes a divider, which gives a list of correspondence references contained in the file by year. This is placed at the back of the correspondence.
