One who does not know Bahrain will truly
relieve that Shaikh Earned bin Isa, the Shaikh
of Bahrain, is the person who grants conces
sions and does things which suits him. The
■ ■ ct is that the Shaikh cannot do anything,
not even can he visit his father, without
asking the advice of tne British. The rule
in Bahrain is in tne nands of tne British.
Tne British adviser is the person who rules
over Bahrain and levies taxes. He collects
ui " e revenues and the Customs duties of the
country, he orders and he executes, and the
Shaikh puts his honoured signature on all
papers which the British ikiviser submits to
him, without giving any opinion of his own.
In return for this (the signature) the Shaikh
gets from the Britisn (Eastern)- Bank in
Bahrain, on the first of every Arabic month,
the allowance which was fixed for him by
the British Government namely Rs. 10,000/-
or$£ 700/-.
Tlie Shaikh of Bahrain is therefore the ruler
in name whereas all the power is in the hand
of the British adviser who was appointed by
the Colonial Office, London. The Shaikh
visits the Government offices for half an
hour every fortnight. Erom this it will
appear that the concession which the British
Oil Company obtained in Bahrain was granted
by the British and not by the Shaikh, and
