Lately they have become more arrogant in their behaviour
towards him and have indulged in violence and looting in Dioai.
On the 23rd September 1934 an attempt on his life was planned
and it was proposed that on his return from a visit to T Ain
Khamir a meeting should be held to depose him. As the matter
was an internal affair, the Shaikh v/as informed that he as ^uler
should deal with his cousins as he thought fit, but that (and
this was given out in the town) any persons who caused loss of
life or damage to the property of British subjects would be held
to account. Certain steps were taken to encourage Shaikh Sa^d,
while not deviating from the policy of His Majesty*s Government
of non-interference in the internal affairs of the Sheikhdoms
on the Crucial Coast. H.M.S Lupin proceeded to Dibai, aircraft
of the Royal Air Force flew low over ^ibai, the Shaikh was
openly promised a present of arms and ammunition and later the
