SYRIA and EGYPT.
A tangle of conflicting evidence has come to hand this week
in connection with the advance against Egypt.
First, as to its probability. From a Greek source,of
uncertain value, it is reported that the Egyptian Expedition is
massing at Adana; that 15 or 20 Austrian and German officers pass
Turkish troops is very good as a result of the evacuation of
Gallipoli; that the Turks can send 150,000 men; and that

An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders.
has about 60,000 men in Syria, the remnants of the expedition
which returned from the Canal last year. But the report closes
on another note : everybody; it says, is agreed that no offensive
against Egypt will be undertaken unless the Germans provide
effective help.
