information, let me add that in our opinion there is
great advantage in seeking a solution of these problems
at a time when the influence of His Majesty f s Government
with the administration of the Government of India is
still strong, and that it would be a pity to wait until
the problems forced themselves into notice, perhaps with
unwelcome publicity, through the growing independence of
the Indian administration.
14. The Treasury are aware of the terms of this
letter and are willing to discuss it jointly with the India
Office and the Foreign Office as soon as you have formed
a provisional opinion upon our proposal.
