The map accompanies a letter on folio 57 of IOR/L/PS/12/3838, from the Manager, Petroleum Development ( Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. ) Limited to the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , Bahrain. In the letter the Company suggest that, in view of discussions over the boundaries of the various shaikhdoms on the Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. , that the British Government should give consideration to a suggestion made by the Company's geologists that the border between Abu Dhabi and Dubai should be drawn between two potential oil fields (indicated by a red line on the map).
