The map accompanies a letter on folio 67 of IOR/L/PS/12/3838, from Major Andrew Charles Stewart, the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , Muscat, to the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. , Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. . Stewart states in his letter that he has enclosed a tracing taken from one of Bertram Thomas's maps, 'on which the Sultan [of Muscat] has marked what he considers to be the natural boundary of Dhofar'.
