SUBJECT:- Arnoursr for- Bahrain Police .
Befarence correspondence ending 1 ith your telegram No.266
dated the 16th May 5 1940.
2. Bahrain Governnent have again enquired if yj« can arrange for
an armourer to look after their 12 Vickers Berthier guns. They had
secured the services of a local nan but he has since resigned.
3. They suggest that if possible a retired military or Police
armourer may be engaged but they viould like very much to kno& the terms
of employment before the engagement.

The correspondence is between the Adviser to the Government of Bahrain (Charles Dalrymple Belgrave), the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , Bahrain (Hugh Weightman), the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. (Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Geoffrey Prior), and the Government of India (External Affairs Department).

The papers include requests from Belgrave for qualified armourers from India, particularly those familiar with Vicars Berthier guns, and later the proposal that a suitable candidate from Bahrain be sent to India for training.

At the back of the file is a letter from the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. in Bahrain complaining about the competency of traffic police and suggesting that training be given.
