APPENDIX XVI.
Specification of Pumping Sets.
1. As many as 200 Pumping Sets are required.
2. Oil engine driven pumping sets will be preferred but portable steam sets consisting of steam portable
driven centrifugal pumps will be acceptable.
3. Pumps may be of any size and make available capable of giving a minimum discharge of 600 gallons
per minute, but centrifugal pumps of greater capacity are desired.
4. The following data is common to all pumping sets
(1) Normal working head of pumps 35 feet, of which 20 feet may be taken as suction head.
(2) Each pumping set to be complete with :—
(a) Pumps.
(1) One foot valve.
(2) 54 feet CM. or W.I. flanged suction pipe made up in assorted lengths, 9 feet, 6 feet and 3 feet,
with joints and bolts.
(3) 54 feet C.I. or W.I. flanged delivery pipe made up in assorted lengths, 9 feet, 6 feet and 3 feet
with joints and bolts.
(4) Two C.I. or W.I. bends for suction piping.
(5) Two C.I. or W.I. bends for„delivery piping.
(6) One sluice valve for delivery piping.
(7) 50 feet belting.
(8) Six belt fasteners.
(9) Complete set of spanners, tools, &c.
(10) Foundation bolts.
(6) Oil Engine.
(1) Cooling tanks with necessary piping and fittings.
(2) Exhaust silencer and piping.
(3) Fuel tank and piping.
(4) Foundation bolts.
(c) Portable Engines.
(1) Where portable steam engines are supplied they should be fitted for burning liquid fuel and
supplied with necessary burners, steam pipes, fuel pipes, oil expanse tanks, and oil storage
tanks to hold 50 tons liquid fuel. The fire boxes of the portables should be fitted with
suitable firebrick arches. Specific gravity (F. 60° Feb.) of oil fuel should be taken at 9
and calorific value at 18,000 B.U.T’s.
The trough oil burner which is being used on Indian Railways is the most suitable for the portables. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

The following spare parts are to be supplied :
One set brasses.
Any spare impellers available.
(d) Pumps.
(e) Oil Engines.
(1) One complete set piston rings.
(2) One set spare bearings.
(3) One vapourizer with fittings.
(4) Spare lubricator glass of each size fitted.
(5) Two spare coils for heating lamp.
(6) One set inlet valves with springs.
(7) One set suction valves with springs.
(8) Any general spares available.
(9) Jointing materials and rings to remake all joints once.
