Translation of a letter from Hussein Khan Sirdar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. [Ḥusayn Qulī Khān Qājār, Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. of Iravan or Yerevan] to Seif ul Moolook Meerza [Sayf al-Mulūk Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. Qājār], dated 8 Ṣafar [AH 1243] [31 August 1827]. Hussein Khan Sirdar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. reports the recent victory of Persian troops led by the Prince Royal [Crown Prince of Persia, ʿAbbās Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. Qājār] over Russian troops from Aberan [Aperan] (see IOR/L/PS/9/71/39). He gives a brief account of the battle and indicates that the surviving Russian troops retreated to Euch Keleesia [an Armenian religious site, possibly at present-day Vagharshapat], which is now being besieged by Persian troops.

This document was originally enclosed, numbered 3 in dispatch No. 64, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the East India Company of 5 September 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/38).
