A copy of a letter from William Bruce, Resident in Bushire [Būshehr], to Mountstuart Elphinstone, Governor of Bombay [Mumbai], sent from Shiraz and dated 3 September 1822.
The letter reports events at the Court of the Prince-Governor A Prince of the Royal line who also acted as Governor of a large Iranian province during the Qājār period (1794-1925). of Fars [Husayn ‘Ali Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. Farmānfarmā], in particular Bruce’s conclusion of an agreement with the Government of Fars (IOR/L/PS/9/69/124 and 131). It also discusses Bruce’s proposed lending of a British cruiser to Persia and a likely expedition from Fārs against Bahrein [Bahrain].
The letter was enclosed in the letter of Major George Willock, Acting Chargé d’Affaires in Persia [Iran], to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. of the East India Company dated 25 January 1823 (IOR/L/PS/9/69/126).
