OPTION TO THE NOMINEE OE THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT
GRANTED BY SHAIKH SIRKHAZAL KHAN OE MOHAMMERAH
EOR IRRIGATION ON A PIECE OE LAND ON THE BANKS OF
THE RIVER KAREN.
The reason of the writing of this document is this that I have agreed that
to whatever person the Powerful English Government may nominate, I will
oive a concession for the irrigation of a piece of land on the hanks of the river
Karun towards the north between Q,usheh-i-Maniat and Rahwali in whatever
spot they may select. The amount of the extent of this land will be determined
and delimited at the time that it is desired to commence the work and likewise
the rights and conditions of “ this one ”*
* The shaikh. with reference to this concession will be
put forward at the same time with the agreement of the two sides. It is evident
that until the agreement on this account is signed, sealed and exchanged
between the two parties that one (the Concessionaire) has no right to commence
this work or to start irrigation.
If after this at any time it should he known that the railway will pass over
or cross this piece of land which has been fixed upon whatever rights may be
attached to the passage of the railway will be given to this one who is the
owmer of the land and the said holder of the concession will have absolutely no
connection or relation with them. The said holder of the concession wdll have
no other rights in the appointed piece of land except those of irrigation for
agriculture that he should interfere wuth or take possession of the land, etc.
The duration of the bond of this document is from this date up to a period
of ten years, after the termination of that period of ten years this paper will be
null and void and of no effect.

The volume consists mainly of six bound compilations of treaties and undertakings, together with related correspondence and other supplementary material, made between the British Government and the British Protectorates of the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , 1820-1919. These treaty compilations were published by the Government of India in 1919 and comprise: the Trucial Treaties to January 1906, Treaties with Rulers of Kuwait from 1841 to 1913, Treaties with the Sultan of Oman and Muscat from 1845 to 1914, Undertakings with the Trucial Chiefs of Oman from 1911 to 1912, Treaties with the Shaikh of Mohammerah from 1899 to 1919 and Treaties with the Rulers of Bahrain from 1820 to 1914. In addition, there is a separate Foreign Office ‘Memorandum on British Commitments (During the War) to the Gulf Chiefs’ made in 1916, which contains at Appendix A, the English text of the treaty made with the Ruler of Qatar in 1916. The treaty compilations are published in English and Arabic, except for the treaties with the Shaikh of Mohammerah, which are published in English and Persian.
