relative
to the replacement of the "Kilidi-Bahr", I am commanded by
ny Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to observe that
the description of this vessel as B a buoy to the lighthouse
at Fao" is unintelligible. The reference appears to be
to the light vessel on the outer baf of the Shatt-al-Arab,
1R miles distant from Fao, which, in a letter from K.M.
Consul at Basra, l«th Decenber 1011 (Foreign Office
reference ’IO.10R3/1R) was referred to as "the old Kilid
ol Bahr", and the Admiralty has no information that this
vessel has ever been replaced by another. In a telegram
from Lieutenant Colonel Sir P.Cox to the Covemnent of
^ India No,5171 of 11th February 1013 (repeated to Foreign
Office), it was stated that the Turkish Light, ship was in
imminent danger of foundering, find the suggestion was made
that some hulk of our own should be sent to act as light
Am soon as the new British light vessel is in
position (some ten miles outside the Outer Bar) the
necessity for any light vessel on the Outer Bar will
disappear, the gas buoy being then sufficient for the
purposes of navigation. The existing Turtrish vessel is
no doubt scheduled to come under the control of the Shatt-
el-Arab Navigation Comission, if and when established,
