The file contains correspondence between the Aden Governor (Bernard Reilly), the Aden Chief Secretary (Reginald Stuart Champion), the Colonial Office, and the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. Political Department, regarding the request from Sultan Salih bin Ghalib Al Qu'ayti [Ṣāliḥ bin Ghālib Al Qu'ayṭī] that the title of Prince be bestowed on Husein bin 'Umar Al Qu'ayṭī. The correspondence concerns the Government position on the recognition of titles of Aden Protectorate rulers, and the possible ramifications of formally recognising the title in India.

The file includes a divider which gives a list of correspondence references contained in the file by year. This is placed at the end of the correspondence (folio 1).
