The population consists of about 12,000, and is made up of
Arabs, Negroes and Persians. They are more likely to side with
the British than with the Turks.
The only water in the town is from a well of brackish water.
The town supply is drawn from some good wells about 3 to 4
miles inland. There are no supplies, and even firewood is scarce.
Shaikh ! Abdullah, who succeeded to the chiefship of Qatar in
1913, is friendly towards the British, and afraid of Bin S’aud.
He would no doubt be glad to be rid of the Turks.
