which His Majesty’s Consul has leased for ten lunar years from 1st Rajah
1328 (8th July 1910).
2. The lease will expire on the 1st Rajah 1338 after which the buildings
which the Oil Company may erect will become the property of the owner of
the land, and the Company will have no claim to compensation.
3. The Company undertake to fill up holes in the plot, and to dig no
others, and to keep the plot of ground in a sanitary condition. The boundary
walls to be kept in repair and of an average height of 6 feet 6 inches high.
The entrance to the plot of ground to be from the public footpath way.
4. In consideration of a payment of £7-8-4, the Company will have the
undisputed right to enjoy the lease until 1st Rajab 1338 without any further
payment of any kind.
5. The Company undertake not to sublet the plot of ground or the build
ing thereon, without His Majesty’s Consul’s approval.

Annex. II (A).
This agreement of lease is between His Excellency the
Sardar
Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division.
Arfa' Shaikh
Khaz'al Khan, Amir Nuydn, on behalf of himself and his descendant on
the one part, and the Imperial Bank of Persia on the other part, herein
after referred to as the Shaikh and the Bank, respectively.
(1) The Shaikh agrees to lease to the Bank a plot of ground without date
trees in the lands of Nahr Slab for the construction of residential quarters.
The length of this piece of land is 75 Persian yards along the river front
and the breadth 50 Persian yards towards the desert.
(2) The Shaikh agrees to give the Bank the sum of from £T 2,000 to £T
2,500 for the purpose of constructing this residential dwelling and to provide
playing grounds and gardens on the abovementioned land.
The construction will be carried out by the Bank’s representatives and
according to their own plans.
The Bank will produce invoices of the materials used for the house,
whether bought locally or imported from abroad and if the Shaikh so wishes,
he has the right to appoint one man to inspect and check the work of construc
tion.
(3) The Bank agrees to pay 10 per cent, per annum on the abovemen
tioned amount which they obtain from the Shaikh for the construction of the
house, the payments to commence after six months from the date on which
the money has been paid for construction purposes and the ground handed
over. The land itself carries no rent.
(4) From this date for a period of 8 years should the Bank again require
it to build on the ground, the Shaikh will give them a further sum of from
£T 100 to £T 3,000 on the same terms. From the date the Shaikh hands over
the money the Bank will pay interest at the rate of 10 per cent, per annum.
(5) The Bank has the right at any time during the lease to spend its own
money on buildings, but at the termination of the lease they will have no
right to demand any refund of expenses in respect thereof. The Bank shall
